Inicjatywa Nox (eng. Nox Initiative) is a group of video game researchers. We consider (after Jerzy Zygmunt Szeja, Gry fabularne - nowe zjawisko kultury wsp贸艂czesnej, Cracow, 2004) computer games聽 an unique text of culture - text that throug immersion builds its own performative potential. Video games include representations of love, gender, social issues, situation, politics, ideologies, therefore players - when put in dialogical situation with games - experience these in the very moment he or she clicks to launch the game. Everything starts with music, with graphics and the atmosphere of the game; next are the dialogues, descriptions, places and crircumstances. They all tell a tale, which as a book elicit interaction.

Our aim is to share scientific information about games and developers as well as write our own reviews of specific (video game studies) books, articles, initiatives and discourses. Why? Because we believe games are significant part of life. Games determine culture (J. Huizinga, Homo ludens) ergo they should be researched, not stigmatised (for ex. by pedagogues, social researchers) and considered meaningless. Games in many situations base on symbols, so meanings are an essential part of game studies. These meanings we would like to research and describe.

 

We hope to work with other researchers, players and developers. If you are a player and you would like to help us, fill in this survey we prepared.
